Can You Save Money With an Internet-Only Car Insurance Company?

Article by UK Insurance Index

Even with the help of the internet, searching for car insurance that provides both value for money and the chance of paying out when you need it most is still a headache.

The medium may have changed but the number of providers and adverts competing for your premiums has not. The shear number of options and our increasingly busy lives is the main reason why so many motorists don't bother to shop around at renewal time and just accept their insurers quote.

But one source has emerged from the noise to help narrow the field by revealing their most competitive provider out of hundreds of policies. The price comparison site Moneysupermarket has been a leading player in the UK car insurance market by offering a simple yet powerful tool for motorists wanting to beat their renewal quote without wasting hours at a computer screen.

As a price comparison site, Moneysupermarket compares hundreds of motor insurance policies with one quote and from more than three million of these quotes produced throughout 2006 has revealed their most competitive car insurance provider.

THE SURVEY RESULTS

Moneysupermarket revealed that the internet-only insurer Swiftcover car insurance was the most consistently low-cost brand quoted on their website during 2006. Other car insurance providers that made the top five were...

Other big name brands that made the top ten were...

The research also revealed that Debenhams offers the most expensive average quote for all drivers but was joined by another big name, AA Car Insurance, also languishing at the bottom of the tables.

LOWER OVERHEADS?

So the often touted claim of low overheads as an important selling point from internet insurers and the savings being passed onto the consumer seems to be well founded. And with fair weather insurers changing their pricing structures overnight to meet sales targets, consistency is a useful gauge to help consumers see which insurers are worthy of our premiums, now and at renewal time.

But then again, there really is no substitute for shopping around and investing as little as fifteen minutes comparing the market. It's your only guarantee of a truly competitive deal year after year.
