A Bradford woman claims to have been quoted £53,000 to insure a Vauxhall Corsa. But the website concerned denies this could have happened.
The case of 20-year-old Leah Groves was raised by her MP David Ward. She said most quotes she was offered were in the region of £7,000 to £8,000 but that one quote on Gocompare was for £53,000. The site says this is impossible as it automatically filters out any quotes above £12,000.
Whatever the true picture -- and another local man reported a £26,000 quote -- it appears its no coincidence that such high quotes are coming in Bradford. Parts of the city have disproportionately high levels of accidents leading to a personal injury claim, with widespread speculation that the crashes are caused deliberately by professional scam artists.
Ward surveyed more than a thousand local residents and found the average policy quote in the area had risen by 63 percent in the past two years. He says the huge policies being quoted effectively mean that for many customers the area is blacklisted.
