Hollywood star scammed by rogue insurance agent

A Californian insurance broker has been charged with defrauding four clients including actor Tom Hanks and former Police guitarist Andy Summers.

Credit card protection could be new insurance scandal

A company called CPP had been fined £10.5 million for misselling insurance policies that cover the risk of cards being lost or stolen, and/or the risk of identity theft.

PPI misselling bill tops 10 billion

Barclays has confirmed its has now set aside a total of £2 billion to pay compensation for mis-sold payment protection insurance. It takes the total banking sector costs to more than £10 billion, with predictions of the final bill hitting as much as £15 billion.

Ombudsman questions bogus insurance trends

The Financial Ombudsman Service says it has no evidence that fraud among policyholders is any more prevalent than in the past.

Bogus pelican crossing prompts insurance fraud claim

Texas resident Andy House owned several vehicles including a Bugatti Veyron, one of just 300 ever made. He took out an insurance policy worth $2.2 million with the Philadelphia Indemnity Insurance Company.

Three weeks later he claimed for the full value of the car after it wound up in a salt water swamp. He told police that he had dropped his mobile phone and, when he looked up from picking it up, was distracted by a low-flying pelican and swerved off the road.

New register aims to stop insurance scammers claiming nearly 1 billion

Insurers have revealed that scammers make claims totalling almost a billion pounds a year. It's led to the launch of a register to try to hunt down serial fraudsters.
