On 31 December 2006, we experience high winds which resulted in some minor roof damage and damage to our garden wall. Homeserve told us to find a local roofing contractor to repair the roof as this was an emergency and that they would appoint a contractor in due course to fix the wall.
After a couple of weeks, Clark Contracts of Paisley, Scotland, who were awarded the contract by Homeserve, sent out a surveyor to assess the damage and begin the repair work. It is now 31 July 2007 and I am still waiting for Clark Contracts to complete a satifactory job.
The problem is, Clark Contracts sub contract the work to what would seem to be cowboys that are incapable of rebuilding a simple brick structure that supports larch fencing. The surveyor has given all sorts of excuses and claimed that the design of the original structure is flawed and that it is imposible to build 5 feet high brick pillars that are stable. I have pointed out to him that the previous stucture was built by a keen diy enthusiast who had no formal apprenticeship and was capable of building a structure that had stood for 15 years.
My advice to all is to avoid Homeserve if you can. Seven months to fix a garden wall is excessive in my book. Homeserve have done little to expedite this matter and most of the telephoning, writing, complaining has been carried out by myself.
Because Nationwide BS sub contract the insurance to Homeserve who subcontract the work to Clark Contracts who sub contract the work again to local trades, it allows too many people to pass the buck.
