Customer Review Comments:
Bought the insurance via Argos for a printer that cost £180. The insurance cost me an extra £47 but I figured that it was a safety net from any heavty repair bill.

After about 17 months the printer was showing an error message that the waste ink absorber was almost full, call the service centre. A waste ink absorber being a pad that soaks up all the waste ink that the printer has used so that it does not leak out of the printer.

I called the insurance and the printer was taken way for what I believed would be a waste pad change and a rest of the waste ink counter. The counter ticks down from a set amount of cleaning cycles having been performed and then says almost full. After short while the printer then stalls and won't print as safety mechanism.

After 11 days it came back 'clocked'. This being the counter reset but no new pad was put it in. They did not tell me that when they returned no doubt hoping I would not know!

These ink pads get saturated with congealed ink that will leak out of the printer. As the waste pad had already signaled, it now has to soak up that amount of ink again on top of the old ink and wont signal again as they reset the counter so it thinks it has a new pad!

Like a sponge that soaks up water once the pad's absorbency has been reached it can't soak up any more and leaks. The ink will go everywhere as a result and I will have no idea when as it all inside and visable. It's like playing Russian Roulette.

When I contacted D&G about it they implied that no one else ever had any problems with them, but they would say that!

I answer question on a printer forum so knew a bit about the issue so knew that it had only be 'clocked', others may not - untill it leaks.

My complaint got me messed about and no resolution so I contacted Argos as they sold me the policy. They put me back in touch D&G who were the problem I called them about!

D&G implied that as the printer is working whats the problem?

The Problem D&G is:

The reset is free on the Internet and not a repair. Its just stoped it saying I have a bad belly please call the doctor!

That congealed ink can leak and cause damage or a fire.

The printer cannot be used as a result of the 'clocking'.

I paid for piece of mind and I got contempt and a cowboy repair.

I would never use Domestic and General again but save my money and pay for the repair to be done properly.

Good Points: None
Bad Points: Too many to list.
