We had an American style whirlpool fridge freeze that broke down.
We contacted domestic and General on the Monday. They sent an engineer out on the Wednesday. He looked at it and said it needed a new motor. He made his report to his company and left.
Two days later another engineer came out, we assumed, armed with a replacement part. No, he took the fridge to bits, regassed it and said it probably wouldn't work anymore even with a replacement. He advised us to ring in after the weekend if it was still not working and it would be declared beyond economical repair. This we did. After all, it was 9 years old and didn't owe us anything. That's where things got a bit annoying. It took a further two weeks of phone calls to even get a confirmation that we would receive a replacement.
Domestic and General expected us to wait over 4 weeks without a fridge freezer and refused to contribute towards a fridge of our choosing, insisting on £120.00 towards the cost of the sold called "new for old" replacement.
I will never use them again and strongly advise others to hold onto their hard earned cash.
