Review of E & L Pet Insurance

I had my 2 year labrador insured with e & l. The dog had a accident which resulted in a trip to the emergency hospital and an operation. Everything had to be paid for cash up front as the vets would not deal direct with the insurance company. The total bill was over £3,500. It took well over six months to get the bill sorted due to slow responce and invoices going missing. I was fortunate enough to have the money available to be able to pay for the treatment, but what if I couldn't pay? The only other option was to have my 2 year old dog put to sleep. Eventually got everything settled minus what was listed in the small print, so eventually received about 75% of the claim.

I have seen very few positive reviews about E&L. My local Vet hospital will not even correspond with E&L and say if you are insured with them that you must pay up front and sort it with them after! Not easy if your pet needs an operation that costs in excess of £1000.

2011: E & L have refused my claim for my dog's final treatment for Cancer & Euthanasia. Reason given: Vet inspected a wart on his back in 2010 and a stye in his eye in 2009. I did not make any claims from E & L. They have a clause in their Policy that any treatmants have to be advised to them at the time of the next annual Policy review, otherwise the Cover could be void. Be warned!
