Whilst I had the policy I was lucky enough never to have to make a claim with this company. The problem came when I tried to cancel my renewal.
I found a cheaper quote with another company. Ibuyeco said they would automatically renew my insurance so I sent an email saying that I no longer wanted to renew the policy. This was over a week before the policy was due for renewal and therefore in plenty of time. They replied several days later stating that I could not advise them that I didn't want to renew my policy by email and had to ring them in person. So I rang them. They told me I was too late and that the policy had already been renewed and that I would have to pay for my first month, and pay a cancellation fee which amounted to about three months worth of insurance. I told them that I was giving them enough notice and that they were not authorised to take a payment out of my account.
Unfortunately they took payment anyway and because it was not by direct debit but by a debit card payment then there was little I could do to stop them and I couldn't cancel my card as I needed it for that weekend as I was away in London. I rang up to complain and after a twenty minute phone call to an 0845 number I was finally told I was going to be refunded my money in the next 7 days. I was refused to be put through to a supervisor so I awaited my refund. This did not happen, what did happen was that they sent me out another renewal insurance certificate and further payments were taken FROM my card. I was fuming. I was told by my bank the only way I could stop them was to report my debit card as lost and order a new one, which I have done. If I hadn't, I genuinely believe they would still be taking payments.
I have since written a letter to make a formal complaint but I won't hold my breath getting my money back. The staff are incompetent and rude and I was refused to be put through to a manager each time I rang. I will NEVER use this company again. The next step for me is the insurance ombudsman. I agree with the last review. If I could give them a minus rating I would.
