I took out this policy to cover another car I owned. After 2 months I decided to sell my second car and so decided I didn't need this policy. I looked in the handbook, provided by 'One Quote Direct', specifically at their cancellation charges - it stated that they would charge me a fee of £50 for cancellation - keeping the policy going was more than this charge and so I cancelled.
I had paid a total of £167 to them at this point and was surprised to receive a letter statin that I owed them another £44.38. I phoned them and a young man went through all the charges - there was a direct debit set up fee, commission, cancellation fee, and the period of risk - all together this came to £160 and he agreed with me that they actually owed me £7. He said there was no one in the accounts department for me to speak to but he would get a letter sent out to me with the breakdown of the charges.
Four days later I recieved a letter threatening legal action for the recovery of the £44.38 that they still said I owed - no breakdown of their charges. I phoned again and a young lady subsequently put me on hold while she looked at my account - twenty minutes later the phone went dead - I had been cut off by them.
Today I phone and another lady goes through the charges with me - this time some of the charges are different, some are more and one is less but this time there is are new charges: she tells me that apart from me having to pay One Quote charges, and that they are just the brokers, I now also have to pay the insurance company charges too - I have to pay them a cancellation fee and admin fees too and this is why I owe £44.38 - I feel robbed as none of these charges were in the handbook and feel that these companies are allowed to just make charges up as they go.
