I booked a Travelodge last week as I have done many times before and when the option came up to purchase cancellation insurance for a £1 extra - underwritten by Atlas - I clicked the option as I have always done in the past.
However, this was the first time that I had to cancel my Travelodge booking and when I came to try to claim I found that it is virtually impossible to get your money back unless you have cancelled due to a death and have evidence, have a doctors note or itemised breakdown bill. Even though I cancelled within 24 hours of booking and over a week before the room was booked for.
Travelodge were absolutley no help at all - telling me that as my room had been discounted (I wasn't aware it had as it was still £43!) that the insurance wouldn't have covered me anyway. They had still let me buy it in the first place though!!
I realised that I was still within the two week cooling-off period to cancel my insurance and get my pound back. But will Atlas or Travelodge let you do this? NO! they say that there are links on their website to cancel the insurance but I looked everywhere and couldn't find any.
Their customer service team wouldn't help me find these links even though I asked them. This is a sham and I would not recommend any insurance by Atlas. I will never use Travelodge again and I will tell as many people as possible about their terrible service.
