Customer Review Comments:
I am insured with NIG for my 1968 Volkswagen Beetle. Shortly after Christmas someone crashed in to it without leaving any details and rendering it undriveable. There goes my excess and no claims bonus, I thought. On the bright side though I am insured fully comp, so at least it will be fixed and I'll be back on the road in no time.

How wrong I was!

I reported it to NIG who refused my specialist classic VW mechanic and insisted I use their regular garage, Phoenix. A Vauxhall dealership? Not wanting to rock the boat and having them double check they were capable of the work I reluctantly agreed and the car was promptly picked up.

That was the last I heard for ages despite trying to get an update on the status.

To cut a long story short, I have spent the last two months trying to get the ball rolling on the repair. They now admit that Phoenix can't repair classic vehicles and need to use my specialist afterall. Unfortunately for me he is booked up solidly for at least the next month, whereas if they had gone with him in January the work would be done by now and I would be driving round in my beloved Beetle.

By the way, I should also mention that I have only had a courtesy car for the last week and a half. That came only as a result of my asking the question "how do you expect me to get around while I wait for you to get your act together?". Before that I was walking the 8 mile round trip to and from work in the snow whilst their garage was closed due to bad weather conditions. What they hadn't worked out is that I actually walk past it on my journey to work. At least they had cars!

Today I had my car delivered back to me in its unfixed state. They want it back outside my house while they wait for an appointment with my mechanic. Apparently it is taking up too much room at Phoenix. Only problem is that it is now in a worse state than it was when it left me!

Despite removing the cars cover when they picked it up they failed to put it back on for the two months that it was outside Phoenix in the worse winter for 100 years!. Bare in mind that my car is a 42 year old classic which has survived in near perfect condition because of this sort of care and attention to detail. Not only that but they put the wet cover inside the car. Now the seats have changed colour from black to orange, the carpet is soaking wet & mouldy, beneath the carpet is under 5mm of water & beginning to rust and the door panels are warped & blistering. Basically 42 years of original parts have been destroyed by outright neglect.

I wish it stopped there. On top of the interior they have broken custom parts I bought from California, they couldn't work out the reverse lockout on the gear lever and so forced it and someone has stolen the inverter for running my laptop!

I have no idea if I'll ever drive my beloved car again or whether they will just throw in the towel and declare it an insurance write off after 42 years of faithful service. Sadly I suspect it will be the latter.

I'm not even going to bad mouth NIG. I think their actions speak louder than my getting angry and being rude about them. Telling you the truth on how they've handled my claim is far more useful. I only hope you are reading this because you are seeking advice on insurers and not because you are stuck in the same situation as I am.

Good Points: One girl there is finally calling me back and following up on her promises. When she is not there she has someone else cover. Pree is her name.
Bad Points: See my review. Too many to list here!

Yes having a nightmare with NIG at moment. Someone crashed into me he has admited liability and he has payed out etc. NIG still will not reinstate my NCB even though the crash was not my fault. Communication terrible going round in circles.
