Wow - I'm very surprised by the negative comments about Homeserve. Maybe I've been lucky but the service I got from them when my boiler broke down recently was excellent. The response was very quick - problem was diagnosed and 2 new parts were ordered, which came direct from the boiler manufacturer. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the service I got having paid under £100 for the annual cover. I know I saved myself hundreds of pounds in parts & repair bills.

Date: 19/10/2010 Took my money, made a total cock up, and have spent 2 weeks unsuccessfully trying to get my money back - they owe me £500 and are a bunch of crooks

Date: 17/10/2010 We've had them for two years now, and as a result now have two leaking taps, one toilet cistern that won't work properly despite numerous complaints. They've come out, said they couldn't find a place to park and left without doing work on four occasions. The quality of the fittings they install and the way they install them are both unsatisfactory. And their telephone service is laughable. Requests for information or copies of invoices or the like are not responded to. I'm weary of struggling with them. The whole thing seems disjointed as if no one in the organisation or employed as a subcontractor by the organisation communicates with any of the others. I give up!

Date: 13/9/2010 I am very surprised to read these comments as i have had nothing but excellent service from Homeserve and have recommended them to family and friends. Fast service and have never had to put my hand in my own pocket to pay for a repair. I was called after the repair and completed a questionnaire where i left comments on the entire service. A very happy customer!

Date: 6/7/2010 I am a victim of Homeserve flaw. Plumber1 on the night of the leakage stops the water system. Incompetent plumber2 next day rips carpet, skirts, and panels- damaging some. Says that sealing is not their remit. On escalation manager plumber3 promise to replace damaged items. But leaves with all house in the ripped off state. Finally Customer Relations calls. A joke! The lady had zero empathy and doubted replacement. Homeserve is a waste of time!

Date: 10/5/2010 I was just about to confirm payment for a Homeserve policy for peace of mind as I have a 6 yr old boiler that has already cost several hundred pounds in the last 3 years so thought an insurance policy including annual service could save me money in the long run. Having read these reviews I shall resist the tempting offer of £50 cashback & look elsewhere.

Date: 29/4/2010 Called in an Emergency, outside drains blocked and overflowing when toilet flushed. The nominated firm had not phoned me after the promised 90 minutes. When I phoned them they told me they had it booked for an appointment the following day! This is not the emergency cover I paid for and this is the second time in a year that they have failed to provide that cover. I will not be renewing.

Date: 23/3/2010 Useless, worst company I have ever dealt with. Left us 3 weeks without gas and hot water, ended up having to source our own engineer and paying for it ourselves and then having to wait nearly 2 months for the money to be reinbursed.

Date: 20/2/2010 Homeserve policies sold as emergency cover -they're not. Boiler malfunctioned, called 24hr breakdown, no-one available for 48hrs!! Receive call on day of visit, engineer off sick and would have to rearrange visit. So without heating and hot water for five days in minus temperatures. Call to Trading Standards and BBC Watchdog in the offing. Avoid this company at all costs.

Date: 13/2/2010 Been with Homeserve for 12 years & never claimed. However, an emergency plumber was required last week to repair a split water pipe within our kitchen area (which led to severe flooding). On contacting Homeserve I was told that it would be 2 days before a plumber could attend. Customer service is a joke. Policy now cancelled. (Any advice as to a good alternative would be welcome)

Date: 16/1/2010 Phoned Homeserve yesterday as boiler is severely leaking, but apparently even though their name is on policy, they take the money etc, they are not responsible as they are only a middle-man, acting on behalf of other companies. Although their policy states that there is emergency call-out and a hotline number, there isn't.

Date: 19/12/2009 Took 30+hours to respond to an interior leak, then missed the leak altogether & declared it fixed. A competent plumber took 10 minutes to put the problem right.

Date: 15/12/2009 I left Homeserve this year after sticking the job for 2 years-they are awful! Customers were often put on hold while staff wandered off to have a chat with their mates, or had to ring for the fifth time because they kept being promised that someone would call them back, when they had no intention of doing so. Date: 15/12/2009 Thanks to you all you've made my mind up for me, I am with them and seem to be paying for one policy yearly and two others that no one will tell me what they are for!!!!! I will try (for the fourth time) to cancel them.

Date: 11/7/2009 Homeserve plumber broke top of stop valve and denied responsibility. Homeserve made 5 appointments to rectify and all either failed to arrive or could not do the job. Now they are denying responsibility. Should rename as Homestress.

Date: 17/5/2009 Homeserve are rubbish! Zero customer service and their contractors (Storm) are just as unprofessional and unreliable. We have had 15 missed appointments for reasons ranging from misdiagnosis of the problem, simple failure to turn up and inability to order in the correct part.

Date: 14/1/2009 Homeserve were sent by my house insurance company to replace 2 door locks after my wife's handbag was stolen. It took them TWO weeks and FIVE visits.

Date: 6/5/2008 Quite unintelligent and completely biased. 'Badly leaking garden tap', this only needed a replacement washer? It isn’t an emergency and the policy holds a definition of the term emergency, which is something that puts your health and safety at risk, makes your property uninhabitable, or causes damage. You further go on to mention four separate occasions that you have needed help, which you received.

Date: 27/2/2008 This is classic homeserve. We found out to our cost that you are right, they look for any way not to honour their agreement. When you complain they just say you should have read the terms and conditions, these people give the insurance industry a bad name.
