Five days ago I dropped my expensive (£500) mobile down the loo. When I got it on TMobile contract through CarPhone Warehouse I took the insurance at £13.99 pm thinking I would cancel it later.
Now I am very glad I didn't cancel it! After reading some of the reviews I was dreading making a claim and my first annoyance was that the call centre told me to take the phone to a shop where it would be assessed. In the past I had claimed from Orange Care and with a broken phone they had me run some checks on it for them and then basically told me they would send a courier to my work with a refurbished phone the following day and that I was to give the broken phone to the courier.
The Geek Squad call centre also told me that my phone would be taken away for assessment from the shop and it could take me up to 28 days to get either it back repaired or a new one. The guy on the phone was as helpful as he could be but said I had to take the phone into a shop. So with heavy heart I went to the nearest CPW, told the guy my tale of woe, he took my details and accessed my insurance account on the PC and then, to my surprise, said "As you have brought everything with you I can just give you a brand new phone". So I handed over the box with all the bits, he handed me a brand new boxed N900, and the excess was £10 less than the advertised excess! Not sure why that was but am very happy!
So, in my experienece Geek Squad have come up trumps for me! Even if I keep paying the insurance for the 24 months of my contract, and taking into account the £50 excess also, I will still be better off than if I had had to buy a new phone! So in this instance, thank you Geek Squad!
