If you are already insured with them, read the renewal letter from them because if you are thinking of going elsewhere, there is a sentence on the bottom of the renewal that says if they do not hear from you they will go ahead with the renewal.
If they have your direct debit details they will take the premium. We went ahead with another company to find that Hastings had also taken the money. It has taken the last two months to try and get the refund. They continually refer us to their Financial Department who say they will deal with it and do not. Customer Service is very bad. We get the feeling that it is a couple of people answering all the different telephone lines just to make it seem as if they are a large organisation!!!
It is bad enough trying to get back an insurance premium, goodness knows what it would be like if you actually had to claim for a car.
