Review of Homeserve Plumbing, Drainage and Water Supply Pipe Cover

Customer Review Comments:

We took out Homeserve Plumbing & Drainage and also Water Supply Pipe Cover after being pressurised by about a dozen telesales calls in early 2007 at a cost of £70.00.

We called Homeserve when we had a blocked drain, we explained to them that we had tried to clear it but it was totally blocked. The young lady at their call centre told us that it was covered under the contract. When their plumber arrived he told us that Homeserve had told him that the type of blockage was not covered because we had not had our drains cleaned in the last 10 years. We had no choice but to pay their plumber £200 to unblock the drain.

We called Homeserve and they pointed out we should have read the Plumbing & Drainage Terms & Conditions because IT DOESN’T COVER BLOCKED DRAINS, it does however cover about everything that could go wrong with your Plumbing & Drainage BUT unfortunately it includes endless caveat’s that nullify any obligation for Homeserve to pay out. If we had been told this in the first place we could have got our local plumber to unblock the drain for £50.

Needless to say we are not going to renew and will just use our local plumber for leaks and blockages. Drain collapses are covered on our home insurance policy (we hope).

Good Points: None
Bad Points: Call centre tells you you are covered and the plumber tells you you aren't

Jennifer, Yes if Joseph does not work on the Homeserve “Helpdesk” then they should recruit him immediately. As you can see he has provided a very articulate explanation of why Homeserve would not pay to clear my blocked drain and it seems he has provided the same service for other people who complained about Homeserve. It’s good to have my comments verified by someone as knowledgeable of the Homeserve Terms and Conditions as Joseph.

Joseph is very busy in these comments. Does he work for Homeserve?

Homeserve's obligation is to relieve the immediate emergency - Homeserve contractors will leave site with the drains running clear, if they do not then they are required to attend again and they do not get paid for the second visit. Having to pay £200 sounds like you needed a descale to remove depostits of fat and grease which you poured down the drain. The policy states that it does not cover for descaling of drains when this occurs.
