We had accidental damage cover on our contents insurance. When we had to make a claim against this, Nationwide underwritten by Churchill, were reluctant to pay out and used every excuse to delay the claim.
Despite the fact that we had not made a claim for several years, had an independent witness to the event, had 5 years maintenance cover from a reputable company on the 2 year old item (thus demonstrating we had no motive for anything other than a genuine claim).
We were also able to provide the original receipt, copy of our visa bill and all the manuals for the item. It should have been a simple claim but took 6 months to resolve with Nationwide who only finally paid out in full when we told them we were going to financial ombudsman.
