I took out a policy with Hastings Direct and they charged £157 as a deposit. Within the 14 day cancellation period I changed my mind and called on 9th day to cancel my policy.
The operative on the phone said that I will recieve my deposit back and cancellation is counted from the day I made the phone call. They requested the documents back, but made the date of cancellation from the day they recieved the documents which was about 10 days later. They did not return my deposit and charged me for the days they claim I used the policy.
Each operative told me a different story and none of them recorded what was said, I suppose they are afraid to be proved wrong. My phone calls to the Customer Service line, which is chargable, drained my phone credit and were useles.
They are still chasing me for payments and interest. I would not advise anyone to use Hastings Direct. Very unfair company. Do not believe what their operatives say and make sure they put notes on your file otherwise they will refuse to accpet your version of events if it goes wrong.
Overall, very unprofessional handling of customer issues. I ended up paying £220 for a policy that I did not even have.
