I took out a central heating boiler policy with Homeserve. The first time I called them they sent around a 'boiler engineer'. He took the front cover off the boiler and looked at it for 5 minutes.
He then told me it would need a new heat exchanger, new circuit board and the central heating would need to be flushed. He told me it would be a very expensive job. Since my policy has an exclusion if the central heating needs to be flushed I smelled a rat.
I looked up the error code with the boiler manufacturer and hey presto it told me a drain pipe was blocked. I cleaned the drain coming out of the boiler in about 30 seconds and it works fine.
