I'm surprised at the low rating Admiral have got here. This is my third year with Admiral (I originally went with them 'cos they were the cheapest) and I really cannot fault them. (Note: I am fortunate enough not to have made a claim so I cannot comment on that process).
I have spoken to their customer services team (UK based) on several occasions (where I have had to change my car details and I also once changed the class of cover) and I found them quick to answer the phone, almost no call holding, and their call centre agents have been very courteous and quick to deal with my queries.
Where new documents were due, I received them within 2 days of speaking to Admiral, and where any refund of premium has been due, it has been processed without delay.
I recently received my renewal quote and I was disappointed that it was considerably higher than the previous year and over £150 more than the cheapest I could find online. However, the cheapest I did find was with Elephant.co.uk - which also happens to be part of the Admiral group - however the Elephant price was with a much lower excess (total of £250 compared to the £450 on my existing policy).
I called Admiral to say I wouldn't renew with them but they immediately offered to match the Elephant price (including the change of excess) because it was part of their group. They obviously had to check the quote against their records but this was done quickly and it was very very easy! I was impressed.
It is also worth mentioning that Admiral and Elephant offer legal expenses (up to £100k) as standard on all their policies, as well as courtesy car and windscreen cover and you're covered whilst using any other car. I have and will continue to recommend Admiral to everyone I know. Have faith people!
