Customer Review Comments:
I have just received my renewal notice for my dog's insurance. I've had no claims in the two years I've had her yet the premiums have increased by 41% from £300 to £423.

When I phoned Argos to find out how they could justify this sort of percentage increase they said that premiums are calculated on all insurance claims made for my post code (I live in rural Suffolk), together with the number of claims made per breed (she is a Basset Fauve de Bretagne).

It's a bit much that I should be expected to underwrite other people's claims especially as I have made none myself. And as far as I am aware, there are no congenital defects with this breed, in fact there are so few in the country I'm surprised any accurate judgement can be made on their lifespan and susceptibility to illness. I was also told the premiums would rise each year to take account of the additional risk due to her age, she is 6.3/4 years old. I'd expect to pay inflationary increases but 41%!

It comes to a pretty pass when insurers are not prepared to accept risk - I thought that was the point! Needless to say I won't be renewing. Funnily enough, I got a quote from them online which came to £60 less, when I asked why I was told it was because the first 14 days wouldn't be covered and online quotes get a discount. Reading through the comments here it seems to me that most pet insurance is a con.

Good Points: Good at setting up the policy
Bad Points: Unjustified & excessive premium rise
