After insuring my dog for 4yrs with Direct Line we needed to see if we could have an operation for his glands to be removed.
We were told because he had a check up and the vet expressed one of his glands in 2009 that was the start of the problem!! My vet found this unbelievable as there was no infection or treatment just a routine check, so no problem was reported to the insurance company. They have a 12 month policy that you have to report any problems, which there was none. They decided to make this the first day of the problem and refused to pay for the operation.
I have since cancelled my policy and moved to Petplan who also thought this was very strange and said thay would put no exclusions on the policy. My only concern with this policy Direct Line has is where does it end as anything the vet may check could be classed as an issue and used to get out of paying for any treatments. Why have insurance!!!
I'm just glad it wasn't any thing serious, I have lost trust in the company and now I have decided to cancel my car insurance too.
