My fridge broke down on Christmas eve at approx 12.30. I called Dom. & Gen. and was given a number for whirpool service dept. They were closed. I called back to Dom. & Gen. to be told that nothing could be done until Jan. 3rd at the earliest.
My 3 grown up children plus my 11 year old grandson were staying with us so the fridge was full of fresh food, including the Turkey. I asked what we should or could do except to try to buy another fridge. No positive response except to say that they were not responsible for the food which may perish.
I asked to be put through to the complaints dept. and after another fruitless discussion, rang off in order to go to a white goods shop in the hope that they could deliver one that afternoon. They did, thank goodness, so the food was saved and we had a good Christmas.
I called Dom. & Gen. again after Christmas to be told that my complaint was under review, and was called a few days later with an offer to repair the broken fridge. I asked what was the point of a repair when I had a new fridge and no room to accommodate the old one. The response - we cannot contribute to the cost of the new fridge.
I therefore told them that my policy had been a waste of time and money and insisted on a full refund of the £79 paid, to which they agreed.
This morning, I received a cheque for £11.53, being the balance of the cancelled contract. I would never recommend a policy with Dom. & Gen. to anyone.
