We used E&L as it came recommended by our dog breeder and with some months free cover. We then continued using them after the free cover expired, simply because they were so cheap.
I've heard the old saying that an insurer can only be judged when a claim is made, and that's the case with E&L.
Our puppy had kennel cough and the sum of £8.42 was eventually paid over 3 months after the initial claim, that's right, over 3 months for a few pounds. This was despite the claim being lodged within days of the vet visit.
Our puppy then managed to grow a cyst on his back leading to almost £900 worth of bills. This claim has been partially paid, but at the date of writing we are still waiting for a balance of some £300 to be paid.
E&L have been terrible, inefficient and downright deceptive. They will not answer the claims phone, and promise to call you back. We've had 1 call back in 3 months. They lose faxes from vets despite the vet producing fax receipts. Despite having to wait so long for resolution they still sent the cheque 2nd class, but with TNT thereby ensuring the cheque takes even longer to clear.
Be very aware that they WILL NOT PAY FOR OUT OF HOURS CONSULTATIONS. Unless it is 'life threatening'. How is an owner supposed to diagnose that? So, if your pet has a broken leg for instance, obviously not life threatening, you are expected to wait until normal hours as E&L will not pay out for non life threatening out of hours treatment.
We cannot recommend this company.
