Customer Review Comments:
I was recently forced to cancel my trip to Bangkok after advice from the FCO against all but essential travel to the area. I managed to reclaim the cost of my flights from the airline however, as the tour is still running I have not been able to recover the cost of the tour.

I therefore believed I would be able to file a claim with my insurance company, Essential Travel, under the cancellation clause. However, they have claimed that I cannot recover my costs due to cancellation because the policy wording for cancellation does not list the the FCO advice against all but essential travel to Bangkok as an event for cancellation. However, I do note that they do define cancellation as "necessary and unavoidable" - however, it does not say limited to or Only due to the following events.

I then asked them that if I do go ahead with my tour against the advice of the FCO, will I then be covered for any medical costs should I fall ill. They said that the recommendation against travel to Bangkok has invalidated my policy. This is what is truely unjust - I have been forced to cancel my holiday as I have no valid insurance policy now, however, they still deem it not be a valid reason for cancellation.

They have really put me in a catch-22 situation and I believe it is really unfair that an insurance policy can contain such contradictory terms in their wordings! Furthermore, other travel insurance polciies do include FCO advice against travel as legitimate reason for cancellation.
