After never having to claim on a travel insurance policy I'm writing this review because I'm boiling over with anger at the way we have been treated by Insure and Go.
They offer insurance on the net, and this is the first time I have ever booked insurance online and it will be the last. Yes it was cheap for what they were offering but I just checked that our luggage would be covered for a realistic amount and that medical cover was offered and it looked ok! Well after an unfortunate event my wife was washed ashore by a strong wave while in the sea and lost her engagement and wedding rings as she tried to get out of the sea. We panicked and got witnesses, contacted hotel securtiy, police and our holiday rep, got relevent paperwork and I even rang the Insure and Go office from the Dominican republic the next morning.
When we returned they sent out a claim form and requested original receipts/valuations from jewellers. I got written proof of purchase for the wedding ring and a valuation but the engagement ring was bought many years ago and the jeweller is no longer trading plus I paid cash for this so had no proof.
After requesting very personal details and all but insinuating I was a fruadster, Insure and Go said they needed more details, this 6 weeks into the claim. They then sent a letter saying that in the policy wording booklet they had sent to me (THE ONE I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED) it states that only wedding rings are covered and no other jewellery. Why was I not told this from the very start? Basically cheap insurance, cheap service, cheap, cheap, cheap.
