My central heating failed on new years day. I rang and was told that I could not be confirmed as a customer due to it being a bank holiday so I would have to pay for an engineer visit. However, this could not be done the same day and would have to await next day service.
I pointed out that this was an emergency helpline; they denied that. I read the policy schedule to them which describes the service as home emergency help. They said that they would only ever offer next day service for this type of fault. The person I spoke to was arrogant and refused to allow me to talk to a more senior person.
I found a local engineer who came within and hour and fixed the fault for £35. I still await a refund of the £99 I had to pay to organise a visit from the Homeserve engineer who was cancelled when I got it fixed.
Utterly appalling service.
