Customer Review Comments:

After several years of being insured with Saga, this year we had to make a claim for damage to the roof caused by a weathervane blowing off in the wind and causing damage to the roof.

WE sent the relevant quotes for the work and Saga sent a surveyor to inspect the damage. He came due to a misunderstanding thinking our quote was for £22,000 and not £2000. He rang the office about it while in our house. This was later denied in a conversation with D Cole from Saga. The surveyor agreed with our quote and said that we could go ahead with the work. This was also later denied by D Cole at Saga.

Eventually we were offered £910 to cover the cost of the scaffolding for the work to be done. They would not pay for the builder or for the tiles that needed replacing. D Cole rang from Saga demanding to know what I was going to do about the offer. His manner was extremely aggresive and the conversation (row) was horrendous. He was just as objectionable when I passed the phone to my husband as I could not handle the conversation any more. I was going to report D Cole to Saga but decided I could not be bothered going into all the details. Never ever have I had such a run in with anyone on the phone in my life. He would not allow me to speak to his superior and I had to actually shout at him to get him to give me his name. Incredible behavior!!.

We heard nothing from Saga and many weeks after the phone call I wrote to them to tell them I would accept the £910 payment. The damage occurred in February and we got the cheque at the end of July. Needless to say I have now cancelled the insurance!!

Good Points: None
Bad Points: Paid half the claim and were rude and unpleasant.
